One national outlet thinks the Carolina Panthers offseason wasn't as great as initially thought

For all the excitement the Carolina Panthers have for the new additions to the team, namely Xavier Legette, most aren't completely sold.

Pro Football Focus put together its offseason grades, and the national outlet wasn't bullish on all the moves the Panthers have made thus far.

Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema gave the Panthers a C+ grade, believing the team did just enough to be a little bit better than it was during the 2023 season.

Here is what Sikkema had to say about the Panthers' offseason.

"Firing a head coach after just one year isn’t great, but you could tell there was just no saving the relationship between Frank Reich and owner David Tepper. I am excited about what Dave Canales could be as a head coach, so I’ll remain positive there.

The Panthers lost some big-name players, such as Brian Burns and Frankie Luvu. They also said goodbye to Jeremy Chinn, Bradley Bozeman and Hayden Hurst.

It’s hard to see the fumbling of the Burns situation as anything other than an impactful net negative. However, they did stay aggressive to bring in some good players like Jadeveon Clowney, Robert Hunt, Damien Lewis and Diontae Johnson.

It was tough for the Panthers to make the big draft splash they needed without their original first-round pick, but I believe Xavier Legette and Jonathon Brooks can be early contributors, and Ja'Tavion Sanders could be TE1 at some point.

The Panthers have a myriad of unknowns currently. No one is sure what the offense will really look like with Dave Canales calling the shots. No one knows if Bryce Young is actually a good NFL quarterback. That will all have to be proven during this season. So, a C+ feels fair, but it doesn't tell the entire story.

Pro Football Focus is underrating the additions made on the offensive line and in the running back department. Young now has two go-to receivers in Johnson and Legette. He also still has veteran Adam Thielen, who will be a difference-maker.

Carolina could actually shock the rest of the league and be far more competitive than initially thought during the 2024 season.
